
The Left parties plan to corner the Government during the budget session on policies pertaining to farmers. 8220;Despite tall claims by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram, farmers are in deep trouble. Our immediate battle with the Government in the Parliament will be on the issue of farmers interest,8221; said CPI secretary D Raja in the Capital on Tuesday, while addressing representatives of farmers organisations.
Criticising the 8220;flawed8221; policies of the Government, CPI general secretary A B Bardhan urged all farmers organisations to unite in order to get proper attention from the Government. 8220;Why is that the Finance Minister has nothing to say when farmers commit suicide?8221; he asked. The meeting was also addressed by Nilotpal Basu of the CPI M, RSP8217;s Abani Roy and CPI8217;s Atul Anjan.
The representatives of the farmers organisation were called here by former Prime Minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh.
Addressing the meeting, Singh said the Government must rectify its policies and also demanded that the land acquisition act be amended.
