It was supposed to be a rally against the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar. But the three Left parties 8212; CPI, Forward Bloc and RSP 8212; that joined Ramvilas Paswan in Patna today to demonstrate against the NDA could not let go of the opportunity to take a swipe at the UPA government at the Centre.
Attacking the Centre for its 8216;8216;pro-US policies8217;8217; and the spiralling prices, the Left urged Paswan to provide leadership at the national level.
8216;8216;The Government of India is working under American influence. Globalisation is leading to massive unemployment and India should quit WTO,8217;8217; declared RSP leader Abani Roy. Forward Bloc general secretary Debabrata Biswas echoed the view, while CPI general secretary AB Bardhan attacked the Centre over forward trading.
8216;8216;We want better coordination between the Left and the LJP. We can provide alternative leadership,8217;8217; Bardhan said, adding that Paswan would reflect the Left8217;s opinion in the Union Cabinet. Both Biswas and Bardhan also praised Paswan8217;s work in reducing prices of life-saving drugs.
Paswan, however, chose to defend the Manmohan Singh government. He refuted the Left8217;s charge that the Centre was working under American influence, saying India was a sovereign country. The LJP, instead, concentrated on using the rally to project Paswan as the last hope for Bihar.
8216;8216;Don8217;t incite a snake. If you do then don8217;t spare it. I have incited a snake and I promise that I will not spare it,8217;8217; Paswan said about the Nitish regime. He claimed that the NDA government had failed on all fronts and was making only false promises.
