Left out, or Left in?

Last week8217;s reconstitution of the IGNCA trust set off speculation of a Left purge in the institution. The reference was to Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Mrinal Sen and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, who have been sympathetic to the Left cause in the past and who have all been dropped. Sen and Gopalakrishnan, however, could only laugh at the suggestion, while CPIM Politburo member Brinda Karat said if that was a criterion then the Government would not have many people to choose from in the cultural arena.
