
NAWANSHAHR, Jan 3: Punjab Welfare Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur lauded the achievements of NRIs and said that the state government was committed to solve their problems on a priority basis. He was presiding over the second annual convention of the district unit of the NRI Sabha here today at the historic Baradari.
He revealed that the state government had already passed a bill to safeguard their property in the rural areas while a law to protect their urban property would be enacted soon. Besides, plots are being allotted liberally for raising NRI colonies in Punjab, he added. He said that setting up of International Airport at Amritsar would solve the NRIs8217; problems to a great extent. Further the state government was also taking steps to keep the children of the NRIs culturally in touch with their motherland, added the Welfare Minister. He appealed to the NRIs to enlist themselves with the Sabha to get their problems redressed.
Balwinder Singh Bhunder, MP and general secretary SAD, appealed to the Punjabis settled abroad to make maximum investments in the state as the atmosphere was peaceful and cordial. The state government would extend them all the facilities and help, he promised.
Deputy Commissioner Roshan Sunkaria revealed that the executive body of the Sabha had already been formed in the district and an NRI Bhawan would be constructed soon in Nawanshahr to facilitate the members to exchange their views and problems.
Prem Singh, Jalandhar unit president of the Sabha expresed sabha8217;s committment to safeguard the interests of NRIs.
