
Hospital accountant robbed of Rs 9 lakh
A gang of miscreants shot at an accountant of a missionary hospital and robbed him of Rs 9 lakh at Kachhwa in Mirzapur district on Friday evening. The victim, identified as Joseph T, is undergoing treatment at the hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.
Superintendent of Police Dr Preetinder Singh said the incident took place when Joseph was on his way back to Kachhwa from Varanasi after withdrawing Rs 9.60 lakh from a bank.
Joseph, along with two other employees of the hospital, was returning in a Tata Sumo. When they reached Kachhwa around 4.30 pm, an Indica car intercepted their vehicle. Two youths stepped out of the car and took out pistols. They asked Joseph and others to hand over the bag containing the cash. But when the accountant refused to do so, one of the miscreants opened fire at him. The bullet hit him in the chest and the robbers fled the scene with the money.
4 dead, 9 injured in road mishap
Four people died and nine others were critically injured in a head-on collision between a jeep and a tractor-trolley in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Friday night.
RN Singh, Station Officer of the Mohammadi police station, said the incident took place due to reckless driving by the driver of the jeep UP 32 AN-1067. Eyewitnesses told the police that the jeep was stuffed with passengers and the driver lost control over the vehicle at Rehariya Township crossing, resulting in the accident.
Gang, planning robbery, busted
The Uttar Pradesh STF on Saturday claimed to have busted a gang of robbers in Varanasi. The police arrested four people in this connection and recovered five country-made firearms from their possession. The STF officials claimed that the gang had planned to rob a trader.
