Lakshminarayanan to be Election Commissioner

After being in the cold for almost two years as Secretary (Inter-State Council), S. Lakshminarayanan is tipped to become Election Commissioner. An IAS officer of 1970 batch from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Lakshminarayanan will replace N. Gopalaswami who takes over as the CEC on superannuation of B.B. Tandon.

HC wants affidavit on Kamakhya security

NEW DELHI: The Gauhati HC on Wednesday directed the Assam government to file an affidavit listing the security measures at the Kamakhya temple which witnessed firing by BSF personnel on Sunday last which left at least 14 people injured. The Deputy Commissioner and SP of Kamrup (metro) are to be to be personally present on February 2 next at the court.
