FEORZPUR, July 13: Suman Krishan Kant, wife of Krishan Kant, Vice President of India, unveiled the statue of Lala Lajpat Rai at the Lajpat Rai Mahila Hostel, in Abohar, yesterday. The hostel building was inaugurated by Lalita Shastri, wife of Lal Bahadur Shastri, the then Prime Minister of India on September 24, 1967, while the foundation stone of the hostel building was laid by the late Baldev Parkash, Finance Minister, Punjab, on April 30, 1967.

Apart from 230 girl students, 20 working women also reside in the hostel. Suman Krishan Kant also inaugurated the newly built seven- room Lala Achint Ram Complex on the birthday of her father-in-law, the late Lala Achint Ram (of the Servants of the People Society), father of Krishan Kant.

While inaugurating the Women Medical Aid Society, Abohar, Suman Krishan Kant said that Indian women after a long struggle have now achieved some success by persuading and prevailing upon political parties to enact a law for 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and the state legislative assemblies.
