Labourer crushed under building

MUMBAI, May 29: A contract labourer was crushed to death under a crumbling illegal building at Bhayander E late Thursday evening.

Vikas Ranjit Sardar 22 was hired on contract as part of the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Council8217;s MBMC demolition squad which was razing down an illegal industrial shed constructed by Vallabh Dedhia, a builder for the last two days. The poles were weakened with hammers and the last step of pulling the building down was postponed to Thursday evening.

Said PSI Ashok Naik from the Bhayander police who is investigating the accidental death case said, Sardar, had gone to the shed to bring back something. No sooner he stepped in he got trapped when the shed came down. A crusher and excavator machine too was trapped thus bringing the demolition to a standstill. The body of the deceased was then handed over to his brother and was cremated late Thursday day night in Bhayander, police added.
