Kelvin Pietersen scored his seventh Test hundred Sunday to allow England to declare on 284/8 for a 400-run lead over the West Indies on day four of the first Test at Lord8217;s.

Pietersen smashed 11 boundaries for 109, sharing in stands of 88 with Alastair Cook 65 and 102 with Paul Collingwood 34, with the West Indies left to face only two overs in the day.

Corey Collymore had three wickets, dismissing Andrew Strauss 24 and Owais Shah 4 in 12 balls, and then Cook to take 3-58, while Chris Gayle picked up three late wickets to finish with 3-66.

Having lost just two wickets for 97 in the second session, England lost six wickets for 179 after tea.

Starting the day with the West Indies on 363-7, Chanderpaul and Daren Powell negotiated nine overs before Panesar came on at the Nursery End 8212; and the left-arm finger spinner struck in his first over.

Panesar landed a sharply turning ball into the rough that hit the back pad with Chanderpaul not playing a shot and he was out leg-before-wicket. He had hit nine fours from 193 balls.

Panesar8217;s fifth wicket by lbw 8212; trapping Collymore on 1 8212; wrapped up the innings for 437 with the West Indies trailing by 116. He finished with Test-best figures of 6-129 from 36.1 overs.

He became the first England spinner to take five wickets at Lord8217;s since Ashley Giles in July 2004, and the fifth overall. On Saturday, Panesar had bowled Devon Smith 21 and had Daren Ganga 49, Ramnaresh Sarwan 35 and Runaka Morton 14 out in identical lbw decisions.

Earlier, Jerome Taylor on 21 drove a ball from Steve Harmison to be caught low down at point by substitute fielder Lee Hodgson, on for Matthew Hoggard after he strained his abductor muscle Saturday.

England went to lunch leading by 124, although Strauss could have been out for 10 after the break. He tried to withdraw his bat to a ball from Powell, but wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin couldn8217;t hold the edge.

However, Strauss had only added 14 more runs when he nicked a ball from Collymore to Morton at second slip to leave England on 35-1 in the 14th over.

Two overs later and 16 runs later, Shah gloved a ball by Collymore to offer a looping catch to Ramdin down the leg side.

Cook and Pietersen brought up their 50-run stand and the 100 total in the 29th over with the opening bat the dominant partner. Cook was 52 and Pietersen 21 with England 105-2 at tea for a lead of 221.
