NEW DELHI, June 11: The Tilak Nagar police have rescued 5-year-old Harminder Singh from Atroli in Aligarh who was kidnapped on June 8 for ransom.
The child was reported missing that day at about 4 p.m. while playing outside his house at Vishnu Garden. After a police enquiry in the area, it was learnt that a couple, Babu Lal and Premwati, living across the road were missing from their house. Babu Lal, a painter, had been living and working in the area for the last two months.
The police paid a visit to his native town, Aligarh. They searched his house, but that revealed no trace of the child. On questioning, Babu Lal told the police that the child was with his wife in the fields nearby. The child was finally recovered from the possession of Premwati and Puran Chand, an uncle of Babu Lal.
Premwati and Babu Lal told the police that they had kidnapped the child for ransom. Babu Lal had apparently planned the crime with another person, Nand Lal, who knew the child. Nand Lal handed over the child to Babu Lal while he himself stayed back in Vishnu Garden to ward off suspicion.
The kidnappers planned to hand over the child to gangsters at Atroli so that they could get a good amount from them. All four, Premwati, Bau Lal, Nand Lal and Puran Chand, have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
