MUMBAI, June 24: A key associate of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim was arrested near J J Hospital on Tuesday evening. Acting on a tip off, a special squad laid a trap for Mohammed Razak Khan 31 alias Jaffar Fantoosh near Temkar Estate, Nagpada. Khan was overpowered when he turned up at the spot around 6 pm.

Khan who handled Dawood8217;s operations in central Mumbai was wanted in connection with several murders and attempt to murders.

Police sub-inspector Dilawar Sayyad said Khan had threatened one Iqbal Ibrahim Gandhi to pay up Rs 70 lakh as protection money in August last year. When the victim failed to pay, his property at Temkar Road was forcibly taken over by Khan, Sayyad added.

8220;While eluding police dragnet since August 1997, he was very active in the underworld activities,8221; said Sayyad. He has been booked under MPDA and is lodged at Nasik Road jail.
