PUNE, Oct 20: A 23-member Malayalee organisation task force will chalk out plans to solve railway problems which have hit Puneites severely after the introduction of the Konkan Railway earlier this year.
The Pune Malayalee Federation (PMF), formerly known as Non-resident Keralite Association, formed the task force at a recent meeting.
After the commissioning of Konkan Railway, 88 trains every month were scheduled to and from Kerala and Pune. These have now been reduced to only 32.
The meeting was presided over by advisory council chairman K.K. Abdul Majeed. P.U. Srinivasan, R.R. Chandra, Kannara Vijaykumar and Mohammed Ali were among those who attended the meeting.
The office-bearers are: C Shamsuddin — Deccan Gymkhana (president), P C Nambiar — Dehu Road (vice-president), J. Sadasivan — Pimpri (secretary), Col. (Retd) Y B Menon — Ghorpuri (joint secretary), U Narayan — Hadapsar (secretary finance).
The PMF has decided to celebrate Kerala day with various cultural programmes at B.J. Medical College grounds on November 1.
