PUNE, Nov 13: The president of the Khadki Cantonment Board KCB Brig Mrinal Suman today made it clear that there would not be any allocation of fresh lands for setting up stalls.

At a meeting held here, Brig Suman said as many as 76 stalls were lying unused. He suggested that the 12 stall owners who were earlier located near Holkar Water Works could now be relocated to some of these stalls. The members, however, opposed this suggestion on the grounds that the stalls had been purchased by poor people and hence their stalls should not be confiscated.

Cantonment executive officer Ajay Kumar stated that new stalls would create congestion and hence they should not be allotted. The civil area committee will now examine the stall sites and place them before the next board meeting.

The board also passed its annual budget of Rs 22 crore today. Around Rs 2.6 crore has been allocated towards repairs to roads. A major portion of the budget however goes towards the establishment expenses. Three major sanctions are presently pending with the Southern Command headquarters. These include the Rs 60 lakh project for placing a divider on the Mumbai-Pune highway and installation of streetlights in the middle of the road, the Rs 82 lakh sewerage project and bank complex estimated at Rs 85 lakh which is to be set up near the PMT bus stand.
