Kawade quits Council seat over Khairlanji

Republican Party of India Kawade president Jogendra Kawade resigned from his Legislative Council membership on Friday protesting the state government's "inaction" on Khairlanji issue.

Republican Party of India Kawade president Jogendra Kawade resigned from his Legislative Council membership on Friday protesting the state government8217;s 8220;inaction8221; on Khairlanji issue. Council Chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh, however, requested Kawade to take back his papers, but when Kawade insisted on quitting, Deshmukh said he is not accepting the resignation.

Kawade, however, thanked him and the members of the House before walking out. Later, talking to mediapersons, Kawade said, 8220;I am pained at the government8217;s inaction before and after the gruesome murder of four members of the Dalit family at Khairlanji. The Home Ministry is busy destroying the evidence.8221; Elected to the Council with NCP support, the RPI leader8217;s term ends in February, 2008.
