
Former international Santosh Kashyap, the chief coach of the Mahindra United8217;s Youth Development Programme, will guide the Maharashtra U-19 squad at the 45th Junior National Football Championship, scheduled to be held in Bhilai from December 24 to January 10.
Seven players from Mahindra United U-19 team are among the twenty probables selected by the Western India Football Association WIFA for the final phase of the coaching camp in preparation for their participation in the championships, which were earlier going to be held in the month of November.
Kashyap, who was last year associated with the state team as the coach of the Maharashtra sub-junior under-15 team, following a week-long first phase of the camp, that concluded at the Cooperage ground on Friday, appeared optimistic about his sides chances at the tournament.
8220;The boys are very talented and I am hopeful of them bringing the title back to Maharashtra. I8217;m quite happy with how the preparations have gone and also the balance of the group selected for the final phase of the coaching camp,8221; said the 41-year-old Kashyap, the chief coach of the Maharashtra team.
The make-up of the Maharashtra squad will be fully determined after the culmination of the final phase of the coaching camp, which would be held in Gondia from Dec 15-22. Sakir Ansari has been appointed the Manager of the team.
Apart from Maharashtra, Orissa and Punjab are the other teams in their group, from which only one team will make through to the quarter-final league stage. Maharashtra will begin their campaign against Orissa on December 25 before taking on the challenge of Punjab on December 27.
