SOLAPUR, JUNE 7: City police have booked the Janata Dal MLA from neighbouring Indi segment of Karnataka Assembly, Patil, for allegedly kidnapping a Muslim trader along with his family and forcibly marrying his 22-year-old daughter.

According to a complaint lodged with the Bijapur Naka police here last evening, Patil forcibly took the family to Mumbai and later 8220;married8221; the girl at gunpoint. After returning from Mumbai, a few days ago, Patil stayed with the family, threatening them with dire consequences, the complaint said.

The police are looking for Patil who was earlier a member of the Solapur Municipal Corporation, it was stated.

The girl8217;s father, who returned from Libya only a few months ago, has also claimed that Patil embraced Islam before marrying his daughter.

The complaint stated, Patil came into contact with his alleged victims when one of his friends was constructing a new house for them. When the girl did not respond to Patil8217;s alleged advances, he allegedly took the family forcibly to Mumbai and made the girl marry him.

Patil has also allegedly got his marriage, which was solemnized as per Islamic traditions, registered under the relevant Act where he has claimed to be unmarried. He has shown Rs 25,000 as the meher amount to be paid to the bride.

After returning from Mumbai, the family avoided speaking about the incident fearing social humiliation, it was stated.

The police have provided protection to the aggrieved family. The girl is undergoing a medical check-up, it was stated.
