Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has criticised his omission for the South Africa one-day series starting on Sunday and said it could dash his World Cup hopes. “I am very much disappointed,” Kaneria said. “I feel like the team management has let me down. I was expecting to be given a chance in this one-day series before the World Cup.” Although Pakistan lost the series 2-1, Kaneria was among his team’s leading wicket-takers, finishing with 15 victims despite a number of dropped catches and missed stumpings. Kaneria has taken 198 wickets in 46 Tests but played only 16 one-dayers. Captain Inzamam-ul Haq had said he does not fit into the one-day combination. “I don’t understand why I am not considered for the one-dayers,” he said. “I have worked so hard and have given 110 per cent for my captain and the team. I have also improved my batting and fielding. I don’t understand, unless they play me how can they know how I will perform in the one-dayers?” The 26-year-old bowler was in the squad for the home one-day series against West Indies in December but did not play. Kaneria said he did not know if he would now play in the World Cup to be staged in West Indies in March-April.“My ambition is to play in the World Cup. But I don’t know if I will get that chance now,” he said.Inzamam doubtful for Twenty20 tieJOHANNESBURG: Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq is doubtful for the Twenty20 international against South Africa on Friday which precedes a five-match One-day International series starting in Centurion on Sunday. Vice-captain Younis Khan told reporters on Thursday that Inzamam was still battling the back problem which kept him off the field for most of the last day of the final Test against South Africa in Cape Town last weekend. “Inzamam was here at training, but he is still struggling with his back problem. It’s improving, but he is still only 50-50,” Younis said.
