RAJKOT, JAN 22: A fine 226-run third wicket partnership between Vinod Kambli 119 not out, 103b, 10215;4, 3215;6 and Amol Muzumdar 109: 108b, 10215;4 helped West Zone register a six-wicket win over South Zone in the Deodhar Trophy one-day cricket tie here on Saturday.

Earlier, opener Arun Kumar 121: 74b, 9215;4, 2215;6 and Sadagoppan Mahesh 85 brother of India opener Sadagoppan Ramesh helped South pile up 317 for eight wickets. The two added 159 runs for the second wicket in only 130 balls. In the end, Rueben Paul hit a breezy 42 not out in 30 balls to take his team to 317.

Easy for North Zone

BARODA: North Zone defeated East Zone by seven wickets in the Deodhar Trophy one-day cricket match here on Saturday.

Vikram Rathore was the top scorer for the winners with 70 while Sanjay Raul scored 53 for the East. Amit Bhandari and Sarandeep Singh took three wickets each. Ajay Jadeja got two wickets conceding 38 runs.

Jadeja was included in the team just before the start of the match. He was kept in the dark till late last evening about joining the team after being ordered out of the squad by a message from zonal selection committee convenor Sunil Dev to the team manager Suresh Luthra.

Commenting on Jadeja8217;s inclusion, BCCI secretary JY Lele told newsmen that the responsibility of admitting Jadeja in the team was purely left to North Zone authorities.

Bizarre Jadeja drama continues

NEW DELHI: Ajay Jadeja played in the Deodhar Trophy championship match against the East Zone at Baroda on Saturday, despite the convenor of the North Zone selection committee, Sunil Dev, repeating today what he had said yesterday: 8220;He should not be playing as he is not eligible to do so.8221; His own state unit, the Delhi and District Cricket Association8217;s vice-president, former Test player Chetan Chauhan had this to say: 8220;Our association had no objection to Jadeja8217;s playing and we gave our consent to selector Madan Lal on his inclusion in the team. We also conveyed to the Board our decision.8221; Sunil Dev is the sports secretary of the DDCA and when Chetan was reminded of this fact that their own man had raised the objection and had also said that the other state units too had protested, his reaction was: 8220;We could not trace Sunil Dev yesterday.8221;

In this story of bizare and mindless intrigues, it appears that Madan Lal contacted all the North Zone state units and majority of them, conveyed to him their consent on Jadeja8217;s inclusion.
