GEORGETOWN, Guyana, DEC 3: Lively fast bowling from the India A cricket team left West Indies A struggling on 66 for the loss of two wickets at tea on the third day of their four-day `Test’ here.

Test player Lincoln Roberts was on 22 and Brenton Parchment on 18 as the home team struggled against some splendid pace bowling yesterday from Harvinder Singh Sodhi and Dodda Ganesh. They accounted for Sylvester Joseph caught at mid on for one and the attacking Chris Gayle, caught in the slip region for seven.

The west indies second innings started just after lunch after the fast bowlers had cleaned up the Indian tail, closing the innings at 251 in reply to the West Indies’ 238.

Roberts, who played a lone test against australia in jamaica earlier this year and parchment, a promising opener, were forced to repair the west indies’ innings after the indian opening attack had threatened to run through the top order.

Earlier yesterday, india resumed at 211 for seven wickets and progressed to 251 by lunch with sensible lower order batting from overnight batsman Mohammed Kaif, who remained not out on 69 (183b, 243m, 7×4) after resuming on 47. He was ably assisted by Murali Karthik, run out for nine, and Ganesh who was bowled by fast bowler Nixon McLean for 14.

An hour and 15 minutes of the day’s play was lost to rain following a heavy downpour 45 minutes after play got underway. The umpires were forced to call an early lunch to allow nearby practice wickets to dry out.

When play resumed, McLean picked up the wickets of Ganesh and Rahul Sanghvi to restrict the Indians to a slim 13-run lead.
