8226; Eleven years have gone by and yet no culprits have been punished for the most heinous act visited upon the city of Mumbai, the synchronised bomb blasts of March 12, 1993.
The city, in any case, itself seems to have nearly forgotten about that day 8212; it is only remembered when some other bomb blasts take place in the city or elsewhere.
Even as the politicians and administrators talk about containing terrorism, it continues to show its ugly head more and more frequently. Our intelligence services should work hard and try to prevent such terrorist strikes. In addition, politicians should also not foster violence with indiscreet words.

Payment politics

8226; Where is the connection between competitive admission and tuition fee 8216;Mr Minister, some facts and figures8217;, IE, March 10. Higher fee restricts admissions to rich elites and there is no place for that in a democracy. If the fee is reduced and more people apply, the admission policy based on meritocracy does not have to change. Top-class education should not be reserved for the rich only.

Reaching out

8226; Whatever else L.K. Advani8217;s rath yatra might or might not achieve, it will definitely give tremendous publicity to the BJP8217;s policies and programmes without much expense to the party. It is definitely a good political campaign strategy.

Act on it

8226; You say that Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani deserves to be complimented 8216;Advani stands taller8217;, IE, March 10. Why? As Union home minister, has he taken any steps to bring the culprits of the Ayodhya or Gujarat riots to book?

With open hearts

8226; At long last, Indian and Pakistani cricketers are chasing the 8216;8216;leather8217;8217; on Pakistani soil. Realising fully well that this tour is not just about cricket and sport, Prime Minister Vajpayee told Saurav Ganguly in his characteristically poetic manner that he and his team should not merely win matches but the hearts of the people of Pakistan as well. Let cricketers succeed where politicians have failed in pursuing this holy grail. Let there be no room for any undue pessimism.

Poll families

8226; Today, there are more and more sons and daughters of politicians entering the electoral fray. At this rate, in the future we will come to see a separate community of politicians who will no longer be interested in taking up any other kind of profession 8212; since they will feel that political office is theirs on account of lineage.
