Judge stabbed

SHIMLA, May 17: M.S. Mandyal, a senior judicial service member and presiding officer of the district Consumer Forum escaped an attempt on his life when a former employees of the Himachal Pradesh University attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon on the busy Mall this evening. The incident occurred when Mandyal had come for a stroll.

SP Shimla A.N. Sharma told ENS that Mandyal had identified the assailant and lodged a complaint with the police. The SP said the person involved in the aborted stabbing incident was the same person who had also attacked him SP in 1989 and later faced a criminal trial.

A major manhunt had been launched to arrest the accused and police parties had been sent to different localities to nab him. Mandyal, who sustained injuries, escaped the attack.
