Unidentified assailants attacked the family of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s Lapung block president Sanjay Tiwari on Saturday morning and killed him and his brother, Ajay. His wife Poonam Tiwari is in hospital and is reported to be out of danger.

Poonam (32), Sanjay (35), and his younger brother Ajay were on their way home after performing the Chhath Puja rituals when four armed criminals attacked them.

“One of the criminals asked for Sanjay. As soon as Sanjay went near him, the man took out a revolver and shot at him. Poonam and Ajay tried to stop him but the shooter fired at them too,” said an eyewitness who did not want to be identified.

Both Ajay and Sanjay died on the spot. Poonam, who received a bullet injury on her leg, was admitted at RIMS Hospital here. Meanwhile, around 150 JMM supporters put up blockade on the Ranchi-Gumla Highway.
