SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 15: Millitants struck again today and attacked two police and security force camps killing a police officer and a army jawan besides injuring eight soldiers.

This is the second such attack on the police in the past three days. The militants had attacked at six different places in Srinagar city simultaneously killing seven policemen besides injuring 16 others on Monday.

The militants fired rockets on the camp of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Police at Palhalan on Srinagar-Bandipore highway after midnight. Senior Superintendent of Police, Baramulla, Abdul Qayoom Manhas said the militants fired rockets at the SOG camp at 1.15 am.“It was by chance that the rocket hit the room where DSP Kuldeep Singh was staying,” he said. The officer died on the spot.

He said a joint operation was immediately launched by the police with assistance from Army and Border Security Force but no arrests were made till now.

Ironically, the same camp had come under rocket attack last year in whicha policeman and his wife were killed. Security had been beefed around the camp after that attack.

Militants struck the same area again firing upon and critically injuring Mohammad Rafiq Malla of Kanggam, Pattan. He succumbed to his injured later in the hospital.

In another attack, ultras targetted a Rashtriya Rifles camp at Watergam in Baramulla district early this morning, killing a jawan and injuring eight others. According to a defence spokesperson at 15 Corps headquarters here, a group of militants attacked the camp from around 500 metres with rockets and small arms killing a jawan and injuring two others. “The attack was immediately repulsed, however no militant was killed in the action,” the spokesperson said. He said the RR launched a search operation to flush out the militants.

The police said militants shot dead a house-wife, Mehra of Batkote village, Handwara in Kupwara district. She was shot dead inside her house, the police said.

The SOG, Srinagar arrested two militants belonging to theHarkat-ul-Ansar outfit at Solina locality of Srinagar. Two receipt books, two stamps of the outfit and Rs 3,100 were recovered from them, the police said.

In Anantnag district, two foreign militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Thimran forest area at Achabal. A universal machine gun, a magazine, 29 rounds of UMG ammunition, an AK rifle with three magazines, 38 rounds of AK ammunition, a compass and a wireless set were recovered from the site of encounter.
