
-Sheila, Patil, LG Khanna meet to firm up security in Capital
In the wake of the blasts last week and reports of CCTV cameras not functioning properly, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has asked for a special committee to be formed to monitor the functioning of all CCTVs installed in the Capital8217;s public spaces.
According to a senior official, while Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil had called a special meeting to discuss the implementation of the security plans of Delhi in a time-bound manner, Dikshit and Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna had raised the matter of CCTVs not functioning in the city8217;s markets.
8220;The chief minister went with a one-point agenda of beefing up the Capital8217;s security and with existing CCTVs not functioning properly, she has asked for a special committee of officials to be formed to ensure smooth functioning of these cameras,8221; said an official.
Following the blasts on Saturday, the New Delhi Municipal Council has commissioned a set of 43 Internet Protocol IP cameras for CP and Palika Bazaar and the government has identified 58 markets where CCTV cameras must be installed.
8220;The idea of the meeting was to see how the decision taken by the Union Cabinet could be implemented in a time-bound and well-coordinated manner,8221; said Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta after the meeting got over at Patil8217;s residence.
Gupta added the government was also planning to utilise retired personnel from the army and other paramilitary forces to fill up vacant posts in the police force.
