The UPA Government8217;s 8220;failure8221; in tackling inflation may lead to a political damage for the Congress, with the Left parties and the UNPA announcing an agitation from April 16 to 23. The agitating leaders also plan to court arrest. However, a date is yet to be finalised for that. 8220;It would be either on April 18 or 20, sources told The Indian Express, adding that the leaders are awaiting TDP leader and UNPA convener Chandrababu Naidu8217;s confirmation before finalising the date of courting arrest.

Determined to make the event 8220;a turning point in the political history of India8221;, the Left and the UNPA are in touch with smaller parties to ensure 8220;maximum participation8221; in the agitation. 8220;We are open to all. Anyone who feels that inflation is hurting the common man can join us,8221; said a Left leader.

The Left and the UNPA would place a charter of demands before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. 8220;We hope our arrest would force the Government to sit up and initiate strong measures to tackle inflation, unlike the half-hearted measures that the Government is taking now,8221; said the Left leader.
