ISLAMABAD, April 1: After losing three consecutive matches, the young Indian volleyball team finally pulled one back, defeating the senior Pakistani team in five sets in the fourth Test of the seven-match series here.

The Indian boys shrugged off their earlier nervousness as they silenced the vociferous home crowd at Liaquat Gymnasium to emerge victors 15-13, 10-15, 11-15, 15-11, 15-11 in a three-hour battle yesterday.

The Indian victory kept some interest alive in the series as Pakistanis now lead the series 3-1 with the remaining matches of the series scheduled to be played in Lahore.

India started off well to shock the home team by winning the first set. But the Pakistani outfit, backed by a boisterous crowd, bounced back into the game by winning the next two sets.

The Indians came back strongly thanks to some brilliant play by Manoj Kumar and Haroon Khan. India won the fourth set to level the match and then went on to win the decider.

In the earlier matches, Indians after losing the tour opener,put up a spirited fight in the second Test but narrowly lost the match in a five-set tussle. They lost the third match tamely at the same venue before a highly partisan crowd.

Indian coach Sridharan later said that the victory proved a morale booster for the boys and now quot;we will try to win other matches also.quot;

In the meantime, a regular exchange of volleyball teams is planned. Pakistan will take part in a four-nation volleyball tournament in India in August this year, president of Pakistan Volleyball Federation Chaudhary Mohammed Yaqub said.

He said negotiations were on to regularise the volleyball series between the two countries and make it an annual feature.
