
Bangkok, May 15: Indian golfers came up with a good performance to overtake overnight leaders, hosts Thailand for the lead in the Janya Cup Team Championships at the 20th Asia Pacific Junior Open Golf Championships at Springfield Royal Country Club, here today.
India, with a score of 465, has a narrow-one stroke lead over second-placed Chinese Taipei, who also overtook Thailand. The hosts were placed third with a score of 467 while Philippines was fourth with a tally of 474.
Sandeep Sayal came up with a three over 75 for India and was two strokes behind leader P Damrongangul of the hosts nation at joint third at the end of the second day.
Sayal, who covered the forward nine holes for 36, dropped three to return in 39 for an aggregate of 152, two behind Damrongangul8217;s 150 in the boys A8217; division.
Teammate Shiv Kapoor, however, met with disaster on the last hole as his ball landed in the water, handing him a triple bogey. He returned a card of six-over 78.
Other Indians in the section, Karan Sachdeva80, Sashir Singh 80 and Neeraj Sareen 80 did not have a good day and came up with high scores.
In the boys B8217; division, Ashok Kumar came up with a good performance to end second. Ashok came up with a four over 76 for a two-round total of 156, three behind the leader. Teammate Harshavardhan Baid was 10th with a aggregate of 162.
Top junior women golfer, Pranita Garewal came up with five over 77 to take second spot, six strokes behind the leader Jaruwan Gulyanamitta of the host nation while Ayesha Kapur scored 86.
In the girls B8217; division, Irina Brar came up with a five over 77 to take the third place while teammate Pragya Mishra scored a not so good looking 89.
World junior girls B group champion, W Satarak set the course on fire with a sensational seven under 65 to take the lead in the girls B8217; division. She was followed by Omarin Sattyabanphot of Thailand with 71.
