NEW DELHI, June 8: Indian Airlines, powered by fine knocks by Vijay Dhaiya (66) and Onkar Singh (53), triumphed over Steel Authority of India Limited by three wickets to move into the final of the Lala Raghubir Singh Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Modern School ground here today.
Dhaiya’s knock came off 70 balls and contained 5 fours and 2 sixes. Onkar, on the other hand, had 5 fours and 1 six in his innings.
Indian Airlines will meet Chand Khanna Club in the final tomorrow.
Electing to bat firsts after winning the toss, SAIL were off to a good start with openers Chetan Sharma and Ashu Dani putting on 79 runs for the opening wicket. With Mithun Minhas (54) and Deepak Anand 37 also producing useful scores, SAIL managed to reach a total of 222 in 39.4 overs. Virender Sehwag (3 for 24) being the most successful bowler for Airlines. In reply Airlines, with good knocks from Vijay Dhaiya and Arun Kumar, managed to reach the winning target losing seven wickets in the process.
Vijay Dhaiya was named the man of the match.
