Alex helps A-I lift Ayur Cup
NEW DELHI: Alex D’Souza’s 20th minute goal helped Air-India (Mumbai) pip Border Security Force (BSF) 1-0 and win the First Ayur Gold Cup Hockey Tournament here on Monday.
A-I, with several internationals in their ranks, dominated the procedings earning five penalty corners as against one by the BSF but could not convert any.
Sridhar to quit
HYDERABAD: Dr MV Sridhar (33), Hyderabad’s highest run-getter in Ranji Trophy 6056 runs from 84 matches (avge 52.66) will quit at the end of the current Ranji Trophy season.
Sridhar’s 21 tons is the highest by a Hyderabad batsman. His career-best score is 366 against Andhra in 1994 which enabled Hyderabad post a record 944-6 declared. Sridhar’s triple hundred is the third highest individual score by an Indian batsmen after BB Nimblakar (443 not out for Maharashtra against Kathiawar in 1948-49) and Sanjay Manjrekar (377 for Bombay against Hyderabad in 1990-91).

RAJKOT: Saurashtraannounced a 15-member team for their Ranji Trophy Super League match against Orissa from February 24.

Double for Punjab
LUCKNOW: Punjab boys and girls won the overall championship in the seventh Junior National Fencing Championship here.
Manipur boys and girls secured second place while Uttar Pradesh boys and Madhya Pradesh girls came third respectively.

As per the instructions of International Badminton Federation (IBF), the major ranking tournamentshenceforth will lose the tag as Grand Prix. These tourneys hereafter will called as Indian major ranking tournament.
