NEW DELHI:
Freestyle grappler Mukesh Kumar bagged a gold in the 63 kg class as India ended a long drought at the international level with eight medals in the Ibrahim Mustafa Freestyle and Grecoroman Grand Prix wrestling championship at Cairo.

Mukesh Kumar, hailing from Punjab, claimed the lone gold as India garnered one gold, four silver and three bronze medals including a silver and bronze in the Greco-Roman class, according to information received by the Wrestling Federation of India here.

India, which fielded seven Freestyle and six Greco-Roman wrestlers in a squad of 22 which left here on April 25, ended up third in the overall medal tally. Twenty two countries, led by Russia and Turkey participated in the meet.

Karnataka XI win
HUBLI:
Rahul Dravid blasted an unbeaten 112 off just 58 balls as Karnataka XI scored a seven-wicket victory over India XI in a One-Day match organised for the benefit of R Ananth, a former Ranji cricket player, at the Nehru Stadium heretoday.

For the losers, Sachin Tendulkar hit a quickfire 106 off 61 balls which had nine fours and eight sixes.

Chasing 305 in 39 overs, Karnataka emerged victorious losing only three wickets with 23 balls to spare. Dravid8217;s 112 had 12 hits to the fence besides five sixes.

5th Battalion up
TIRUCHIRAPALLI:
Hosts 5th Battalion, Tiruchirapalli, annexed the tittle in the Railway Protection Special Force RPSF basketball tournament defeating 1st battalion Luimdinmg, Assam 25-12 in a dull final here today.The final proved to be anti-climax, as the visiting team put up a poor show.

Yadav says no
HYDERABAD:
National selector Shivlal Yadav, who is also the joint secretary of the Hyderabad Cricket Association HCA will not contest the ensuing elections to the HCA which is scheduled to be held later this month.

Yadav said he would have to travel extensively through the country as a national selector to watch every match, so that the best talent could be picked for the World Cup team.

Hesaid, 8220;As I have to travel a lot, I may not be in a position to do justice to the job of a joint secretary of HCA and look after its daily affairs.8221;

His term as joint secretary ends this month, which looks as a setback to the HCA secretary M Ranga Reddy, as eight of the 12 executive committee members have submitted their resignations earlier.

Indian team
INDORE: Madhya Pradesh Tennis Association secretary Anil Dhupar has been appointed the manager of the Indian junior girls tennis team which will participate in the World Junior tennis championship, to be held at Jakarta from May 5 to 10.

A MPTA release said besides hosts Indonesia, other countries participating in the tournament include India, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Lebanon, Pakistan, New Zealand and Malaysia.

The Indian team consists Megha Vakariya, Isha Lakhani and Lata Asudani.
