NEW DELHI: Doordarshan clarified that the revised schedule of the semifinal and final matches at the Wimbledon had upset its planned telecast of the men’s doubles final.
As per the agreement with organisers, Doordarshan was to telecast men’s doubles final live which was schedule to take place immediately after the women’s singles final on Centre Court.
All finals in the Wimbledon are played on Centre Court from where only the world feed is available. Since the world feed for men’s doubles final was not available from court Number 1 where it was played, Doordarshan could not show the match in full. Full recordings would be shown by next week.
Jeev misses cut
NEW DELHI: A second straight three-over card of 74 saw Jeev Milkha Singh miss the cut at the Loch Lomond Invitational golf tournament in Scotland, according to information recevied here. That result severely damaged his chances of a direct entry into next week’s British Open as he aggregated six over 148 for the tworounds. The cut was applied at two over 144.Jeev will now have to go through the qualifiers in an attempt to gain entry into the British Open.
Aparna in quarters
NEW DELHI: National women’s champion Aparna Popat entered the quarter-finals while P Gopi Chand crashed out in the men’s section of Thailand Open badminton championships in Bangkok. Gopi Chand lost 5-15, 17-15, 11-15 to China’s Chen Hong while Aparna beat unseeded Nucharin Teekhatrakul 11-9, 13-10 to book a place in the last eight.
