Maharashtra eves win

MUMBAI: Maharashtra recorded their second successive win in the league phase of the 7th Women8217;s National football championship being held at Shillong. According to information reaching here, Queenis Mendes 2, Grace Pereira 2 and Maria Ribeiro 1 scored as Maharashtra blanked Karnataka 5-0. They now meet UP in their final league commitment on Wednesday.

Badminton team gets sponsor

MUMBAI: The Indian badminton team has a corporate sponsor for the first time. BPL is to sponsor the team for a period of three years commencing with the Sudirman Cup and 11th World Championships in Copenhagen May 10 to 23.

India to contest in six disciplines in Sydney

NEW DELHI: India will contest in six disciplines 8212; athletics, boxing, hockey, shooting, tennis and weightlifting 8212; in the Sydney Olympics next year. Hockey will be represented by both men and women.

Indians sixth

NEW DELHI: Indian boys and girls finished a respectable sixth in the NTT Under-14 World Junior Tennis championships in Jakarta, Indonedia.

The boys team of Chatwinder Singh and Vikrant Sane thrashed Thailand 3-0 before losing to Hong Kong 1-2 in the 5-8 play-off.

The girls 8212; Isha Lakhani, Sasha Abraham and Sania Mirza 8212; beat Uzbekistan 2-1 but lost to Japan 1-2 in the play-offs.

World junior squash

MUMBAI: India have sent their entry for the World Junior girls individual and team squash championship to be held at Antwerp in Belgium from July 25 to August 7. The indian girls had won a bronze at the last Asian Championship in Kuala Lumpur in January.

Mamp;M, A-I in semis

KOTTAYAM: Mahindra and Mahindra, Mumbai, will clash with state rivals Air-India in the semi-final of the Mammen Mappillai Trophy all-India football tournament here on May 12. In the last league match today Mahindras got the better of ITI, Bangalore 3-2.
