
ATF points for junior tournaments
NEW DELHI: The Asian Tennis Federation ATF will award ranking points to the AITA-approved junior tennis tournaments in the country from July 1 in the under-16 and under-14 circuit.
The ATF ranking points will be important for the junior players when they participate in world level events such as NEC World Youth Cup and ITF junior tennis tournaments.
Junior circuit
NEW DELHI: All India Tennis Association AITA announced a four-leg 16-tournament junior tennis circuit followed by the Masters in Delhi, which will get underway simultaneously at the four zones from May 10.
The third edition of Adidas Junior Tennis Circuit, carrying scholarship money of Rs 9.2 lakh, will, for the first time, offer AITA ranking points to the players, Delhi Lawn Tennis Association secretary Anil Khanna announced.
The Masters will be hosted by Delhi from June 7 to 12 in which top 32 players decided on the basis on their performance in Zonals will compete, Khannasaid.
The 16 Zonals, for both under-16 and under-14 boys and girls, carry prize money of Rs 8 lakh while the Masters offers Rs 1.2 lakh as total prize money.
TFA beat Vasco
HALDIA: Tata Football Academy TFA defeated Vasco Club of Goa 2-1 in the last match of the Second Division Super League football tournament.
TFA8217;s striker Trijit Das registered the first goal at 43rd minute in a goalmouth melee off Kaizer8217;s. Alex Ambrose increased the margin at 68th minute.
The final of the Super Six League tournament will be held between BSF and State Bank of Trivancore on Thursday.
Punjab down BSF
PATHANAMTHITTA: Holders Punjab Police downed BSF Jalandhar in a Poll B men league match of the 21st National Federation Cup volleyball championship.
The policemen won 22-25, 25-22, 25-19 25-14 in a match that lasted over an hour. For the winners, Rajan-Manoj Kumar-Pritpal Singh trio put up superb blocks while Jagbir Singh got crucial points with his powerful smashes.
In another Pool B match,IOB made short work of Indian Bank, Chennai, 25-23, 25-18, 25-21.
Russian coach
KOZHIKODE: International Master and Russian coach, Iyssenko Alexandre, will reach here on Thursday to train promising chess players in Kerala as part of a programme of the All India Chess Federation.
The Federation president, PT Ummer Koya, in a statement, said the coaching camp under Lyssenko would last for one month.
About 24 players who had claimed prizes at the junior and sub-junior level championships in the country would be trained at the camp, he said.
