
Kucera to play in Gold Flake Open
CHENNAI: World No 6 tennis player, Karol Kucera of Slovakia will be seen in action in the ATP Tour Gold Flake Open Tennis Championship scheduled here from April 5. Kucera will be playing in India for the first time.
Uzma for US
NEW DELHI: Reigning National champion Uzma Khan will skip the Grasscourt National Championship in Calcutta to concentrate on earning valuable WTA ranking points in the US. Uzma, now based in the US on a tennis scholarship, said, 8220;if the dates of Calcutta Nationals clash with that of ranking tournaments in the US, I will prefer to stay there.8221;
Prabhu triumphs
BANGALORE: India8217;s Boniface Prabhu added one more title to his string of successes by winning the Sydney International Wheelchair Open championship earlier this month. In the final, the 25-year-old paraplegic whipped Tsekiguchi of Japan 6-4, 6-2. In the doubles, Boniface and Tim Carsdorf of Australia lost to the Australian pair of Bernton and Greig 6-3, 6-2 in thesemi-finals. Prabhu is ranked World No 15.
Squash team
MUMBAI: The squash federation SRFI, will be sending a team to the world junior championship to be held in Antwerp, Belgium. It will be the first time that the Indian girls will participate in a world event. The meeting of the selection of the boys and girls teams will also discuss two reports, one submitted by sacked coach Yoginder Singh who had asked for reasons for such action and another a negative report on two coaches of the recent Asian Junior event.

NEW DELHI: Striker LV Luaia scored seven goals as Mizoram thrashed Daman and Diu 15-0 while Assam, UP and Delhi recorded their second successive victories in the 21th Under-16 National Football Championship here. In Pool-B, Assam overcame Arunachal Pradesh 3-0; UP routed Pondicherry 10-0 in pool-A while host Delhi chalked out an impressive 3-1 win over Kerala in pool-D.
