
Cricketer dies on the field
Guwahati: Cricketer Ranju Goswami met his end while delivering the fifth ball of his over at the Nehru Stadium yesterday. Ranju was playing for Assam Tea Corporation against Guwahati High Court in a friendly match.When he began his over he complained of uneasiness. Despite that he bowled three balls. By the fourth, he was struggling. When he began his run up for the fifth, he collapsed. He was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead.
State teams win
Jalandhar: Hosts Punjab, Bengal, Petroleum Sports Control Board Academy and Assam led teams in the girls section into the last eight of the 60th Junior National and Inter-State table tennis championship here today. Also advancing were Maharashtra A8217; and B8217; and Karnataka.
In the boys team championships PSCB Academy, Bengal, Maharasthra A, Punjab, Maharasthra B and Tamil Nadu reached the quarterfinal knock-out stage. The top seeded Bengal girls blanked Kerala 3-0.
