Distinction for Soumya
NEW DELHI: A veteran at 21, Delhi-based Soumya Rao will hold court from the high chair of an umpire as tennis action unfurls on Sunday at the Bangkok Asian Games.
The only woman umpire in the country with a white badge8217;, an International Tennis Federation ITF accreditation to officiate international matches, Soumya will chair early rounds at the Bangkok Land Sports Complex, venue of tennis events.
Basak tops
CALCUTTA: Arup Basak and Anindita Chakraborty retained their Eastern India Table Tennis Championship men8217;s and women8217;s titles.
Anindita picked up her third consecutive crown with a 22-20, 21-14, 21-12 victory over national champion Kasturi Chakraborty, while for Basak, it was six-in-a-row. He defeated Arjun Dutta 22-20, 21-13, 21-12 to retain the title which he had first won in 1993.
