NEW DELHI: Indian junior Vijay Kannan ITF ranked 59 is being sponsored by Dharam Hinduja All India Tennis Association Dhaita to play in the US Open Junior Tournament scheduled to be held in New York from September 7-13.Kannan, ranked 1360 on the ATP computer, on his return from US will play eight weeks of satellite tournaments.

Mendis to lead
NEW DELHI: Former captain, Duleep Mendis will lead Sri Lanka in the five-match Freedom 50 Seniors Cricket Tournament against India. The Lankan Seniors Cricket Association announced the 14-member squad in Colombo on Friday night.

Team: Duleep Mendis c, Lalith Kaluperuma, Sidath Wettimuny, DS De Silva, Asantha DeMel, Romesh Ratnayake, Amal Silva, JC Gamage, Asoka De Silva, R Medurasinghe, H Devapriya, B Kuruppu, Guy De Alwis, Don Arunasiri.

India finish third
MUMBAI: India finished third with a tally of 14 medals in the fifth World Eskrima martial arts Kali Arnis Championships held at Cebu City, Philippines. Hosts Philippines emerged the champions followed by United States. Nearly 500 participants from 20 countries took part in the meet held from June 19 to 21.

Indian medal winners: Vishal Ved 2 gold, Rizwana Shaikh 1 g, Ayaz Sarigat 1 g amp; 1 silver, Radhika Shaikh 1 s amp; 1 bronze, Anisha Satiya and Kranti Khanolkar 1 s each, Asmita Patil, Annapurna Lokhande, Arif Agloria, Vrishali Mhatre and Subodh 1 b each.

Junior athletics
NEW DELHI: The second National athletic coaching camp for juniors would be held simultaneously at three centres from August 3-16, the Amateur Athletic Federation of India AAFI announced today.

The AAFI has shortlisted athletes and coaches for the campsto be held at SAI Eastern Centre, Calcutta, NIS Centre, Patiala and SAI Centre in Shilaroo.
