NANGAL, JULY 27: The governments of two states 8212; Punjab and Himachal Pradesh 8212; today came under sharp criticism from the father of late Captain Amol Kalia, who died fighting intruders in the Kargil sector, for their inability to include his son8217;s name in the martyrs8217; list.
Speaking to mediapersons here today, Satpal Sharma said he was shell shocked to find the martyrs8217; list released by the two state governments without the name of his son.
Although Amol was cremated at Chintpurni, his native village, with full military honours, his body had been brought to Nangal for sangat darshan8217; as he was born and brought up here. However, his name does not figure in any of the martyrs8217; list released by the two states.
Satpal Sharma, a resident of BBMB Colony here, alleged that when he contacted Punjab Sainik Welfare authorities for clarification, they told him that this son8217;s name could not be included in their list as the family was paid ex gratia by the Himachal Pradesh government. The authorities of HP government, on the other hand, claimed that all documents pertaining to Amol Kalia were being routed through the Punjab government.
Satpal Sharma asserted that he only wanted his son8217;s name in the martyr8217;s list. 8220;The question of ex gratia is not even remotely linked to a martyr8217;s honour my son deserves,8221; he said.
