Nagar8217;s power dis-connection avoided
Ahmednagar: The Maharashtra State electricity Board MSEB has agreed to accept the cheques issued by Ahmednagar Municipal Council in favour of the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran. This has temporarily avoided the city8217;s dis-connection of power supply due to the payments of pending power bills.
In the past, the municipal council used to issue cheques in favour of the Jeevan Pradhikaran who was looking after the city8217;s drinking water scheme. With the recent transfer of the water scheme, the Jeevan Pradhikaran had asked the municipal council to issue the payment cheques directly in favour of the MSEB. The municipal council had rejected the suggestion on the ground that as the municipal8217;s power meter had continued to be in the name of the Pradhikaran, the municipal council was not yet made a consumer of the MSEB.
As per an agreement arrived at a joint meeting held in Mumbai in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde, the municipal council has been paying Rs 20 lakh as power charges every month.
The MSEB has accepted the old three cheques of the municipal council which were returned by the Jeevan Pradhikaran.
It is learnt that although the water scheme has been transferred to the municipal council, due to the pending power charges, it is not possible to transfer the power meter in the name of the municipal council. The pending bills are to the tune of some crores of rupees. Besides, the municipal council is also not paying the total current power bills.
