
Court declares Pandit successful SMC candidate
Satara: Kishore Pandit, an independent candidate contested the Satara Municipal Council8217;s SMC election held on December 1,1996, but had lost by one vote to his rival Arun Punekar. The election officer, had declared Punekar as successful candidate from ward no. 31.
Pandit moved the courts against the declaration and demanded recounting. Meanwhile, Punekar expired and the SMC planned to conduct a by-poll in the same ward. Pandit raised objections and obtained a stay on the by-poll.
The judge, D.S. Mhodekar, ordered fresh counting of votes and found three votes from the lot of 26 votes declared invalid in favour of Kishore Pandit and declared Pandit as the successful candidate from ward no. 31 of SMC.
Lehve murder case
Satara: The Satara Sessions Court has adjourned the bail application filed by 10 out of the 15 accused in Sharad Lehve murder case to November 5.
Ten accused in the Lehve murder case had filed the bail application in the court on October 27. The hearing was postponed because the investigating officer was absent on that day.
