Varsity for new committee to probe dummy papers incident
The Board of Examinations, University of Pune, has decided that a new committee to probe the recent incident of dummy question papers in the chemical engineering examinations April-May8217;99 must be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor.

At a special session on Tuesday, the Board also decided that the committee must consist of four members not associated with the University or its statutory bodies. The report ought to be submitted within three weeks to the Board of Examinations.

Dept of Posts8217; diwali service
The Department of Posts has made arrangements for the quick disposal of Diwali greeting cards posted during the period from November 1 to 13.Arrangements for the acceptance and disposal of Diwali greetings have been made at major post offices in the city as well as in Pune, Ahmednagar, Solapur and Satara district.

The following list includes the important post offices in the city where special trays are kept for collection of Diwali mail.- Pune H O -, Pune city H.O, Khadki, Deccan Gymkhana, Shivajinagar, Ganeshkhind, NCL, Parvati, Model Colony, Kothrud, S P College and Swargate. The Department of Posts has requested people to post their Diwali greetings in special containers kept for Pune TD, Mumbai TD, Pune district, Maharashtra state and other states.

Harkirat Gold for Maj Satish Kumar
Lt Gen A N Sinha, engineer-in-chief, presented the prestigious Harkirat Singh Memorial Gold Medal to Major V Satish Kumar Reddy at a ceremony held at the Corps of Engineering Officers Mess at the College of Military Engineering, Pune.The medal was instituted by Sudarshan Harkirat Singh in memory of her husband late Maj Gen Harkirat Singh.

Maj V Satish Kumar Reddy has been awarded the medal for his ingenuity and display of engineering skills while executing a special engineering task of delaunching a 200 feet, 30-year-old Bailey Bridge located at Borim, Goa and launching a 170 ft Bailey Bridge using the same equipment. The launching of the bridge resulted in a saving of Rs 70 lakh to the government of Goa.
