Wanted criminal arrested
Kolhapur: Notorious criminal Prashant Shinde was arrested by Mumbai police in connection with the robbery at the Silver Palace jewellery shop on Thursday night. A police team from Kolhapur is likely to bring him here on Saturday.

District Superintendent of Police Madhav Sanap informed Express Newsline that the police suspected Shinde’s role in the robbery at Silver Palace on Sunday morning. Accordingly information was sent to all police station in the state along with description of Shinde, following which the Mumbai police nabbed him in coordination with Kolhapur police, Sanap said.

Shinde is a notorious criminal accused of looting several bus passengers in western Maharashtra. Recently, he was released on bail.

The police suspect that he, along with another person looted the shop and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs two lakh. A police team, which was sent to Mumbai to bring Shinde back to Kolhapur, will return on Friday.

“Further details will pour out only after he is brought to Kolhapur,” Sanap said.

Magistrate’s house burgled
Ahmednagar: The residence of judicial magistrate in Srirampur S R Jaiswal was the recent target of unidentified house-breakers which have practically hold the town at ransom since past few weeks.

A silver coin having an imprint of Tirupati Balaji from Jaiswal’s pooja room and a sword were found missing from the house while the Jaiswals were away, after having been transferred, between April 9 and 14. The intruders were found to have entered the magistrate’s under-the-police-vigil residence by removing grills, it was stated. The theft came to light when the Jaiswals returned.

Major fire at Kalyani Sharp
Pune: A major fire at Kalyani Sharp company at Bhima Koregaon, around 25 km from here, gutted the godown and the administrative building on Wednesday night. Property worth crores of rupees was destroyed. There were no casualties.
