
ETT result on Aug 11
The result of ETT entrance test for the year 1999 of the State Institute of Education would be declared on August 11. The entrance test was conducted on July 25.The result will be displayed at the State Institute of Education, Sector 32, according to a press statement released by the director of the institute. The interviews for admission would be conducted on August 19, as per the merit of the candidates in the test and vacancies, if any, will be filled up from the waiting list as per the merit on August 20. Also, there would be no hostel facility for the selected candidates.

The Punjab University today declared the results of the MA Part I and II Gandhian and Peace Studies and MA Part I Geography. Copies of the result gazzette will be available at the enquiry counter on all working days, a press release stated.
PUSU urges admissions for honours students
The Punjab University Students8217; Union PUSU chairman G.S. Grewal, today submitted a memorandum to the university authorities, stating that Science honours school students who had cleared the conditions of credit system but have to reappear in the previous class should be allowed admission to the next class. Other demands included allowing improvement chances to honours school ,and equal division of room rent among students sharing a cubicle.
PU team for Jammu event
Four colleges affiliated to the Punjab University have been selected to send two members each from amongst the principals, faculty and officials for participating in a 12-week long programme on Computer Awareness at the University of Jammu. The programme, scheduled for the last week of August, has been sponsored by the University Grants Commission. The PU colleges selected are Government College Sector 46, GGN Khalsa College, Ludhiana, Guru Nanak Dev College, Moga and Khalsa College of Education, Muktsar.

12,923 passports issued in July
The Regional Passport Office, Chandigarh, cleared 12,923 passports in July, the highest number of passports ever cleared in a single month by this office. According to Regional Passport Officer Jagdish Chand, the process has been streamlined so that the passport is issued immediately on receipt of police clearance. The RPO has recently introduced three special tele-inquiry lines: by dialing 601451, 601454 or 602362 the applicant can immediately learn the status of his passport application.
3 hurt in mishaps
Three persons were injured in two separate accidents in Panchkula. Ramesh and Ranjit Singh were injured when their motorcycle was hit by a three-wheeler. Chandimandir police have registered a case under Sections 279 and 337 of IPC. Mulakh Raj was injured when his car was hit by a truck. A case has been registered under Sections 279, 337 and 427 of IPC.
