PUSA concerned
The Punjab University Staff Non-teaching Association PUSA expressed deep concern over the indifference of PU authorities towards their long-pending demands which include implementation of pension scheme and fixed medical allowance. There is also widespread resentment among the employees regarding non-availability of drinking water in the office as well as in the residential areas. In a press release issued here today the employees stated that they would adopt a different line of action if the issues were not settled amicably.

Diplomas awarded
Fifteen students received tailoring diplomas at a function held in Dadumajra Colony here on Sunday. They had successfully completed the course conducted by Stitch n8217; Craft Training School. From the next session, which begins on June 10, the school will also teach embroidery. An embroidery machine fitted with an electric motor was presented to the school at the function. The certificates and prizes were distributed by Sher Singh, president of the management committee of the Baba Balak Nath temple on whose premises the classes are conducted.

Rain damage
The House Owners8217; Welfare Association, Sector 10, Panchkula, has complained that rain water entered 11 houses 477 to 487 in Sector 10. General secretary, M. L .Gupta says the level of water on roads in this sector was about 2 to 3 feet and remained accumulated for the whole night. The House Owners Welfare Association has stated that there is an urgent need for carpeting and repair of roads.The residents have drawn special attention of the HUDA authorities to improve the conditions of the roads which according to the residents is deplorable.

UT Magistrate relinquishes charge
UT Judicial Magistrate Ist Class Vani Gopal Sharma today relinquished charge to proceed to Gohana. Formal transfer orders of the Magistrate were received in Chandigarh, on May 21. She is among the 22 judges whose transfers were recently ordered by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Essay contest organised
UT Environment Department today organised Narinder Kumar Goyal Memorial Essay Competition at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 8-B, Chandigarh, today. Some 105 students from various city schools participated in the competition. Students, from classes VII to XII, were given the topic quot;How one can save Sukhna Lake and make city beautifulquot; to write.

Press Club polls unfair8217;
Six members of the Panchkula Press Club have alleged that the elections held for the club on the 17 of this month, were held in an unfair manner. According to the statement issued by them in Panchkula, the elections were not held according to the rules and regulations laid down by the Press Club.

Resident hit by unknown vehicle
Naresk Kumar, a resident of Sector 10, Panchkula, has registered a complaint with the local police that his father was knocked down by an unknown vehicle yesterday.The local police has registered a case under Section 279, 338 IPC.

One arrested
The Panchkula Police has solved two cases of theft by arresting Rajkumar. According to Superintendent of Police Alok Mittal, the police have recovered a rickshaw and 10 cycles, all stolen, from his possession, is estimated to be Rs 35,000.
