8226; Kudos to Jaithirth Rao for his article 8216;No postal stamps for Minoo8217; IE, January 24. He has rightly castigated successive governments for not recognising the contribution of patriots and leaders like Minoo Masani, Rajaji and others.
Who can forget that Rajaji was the first Indian to be governor general of India. Similarly, Minoo Masani8217;s contribution in Parliament and through his book Our India cannot be overlooked. But then, these leaders did not have any one of the 3 Cs chamachas, chelas and cronies working for them.

8226; Turning Mumbai into Shanghai is a pretty myopic vision, but not for the reasons that the writer points out 8216;Doing a Shanghai8217;, IE, January 25. Yes, Shanghai is beautiful compared to Mumbai. The difference, however, is that Shanghai is a stunning mirage while Mumbai is a reality check, as he points out, albeit sarcastically. Clearly, his impression is fogged by touristy notions of cleanliness and hygiene. If only cities were about that. The writer forgets to mention that on the squeaky clean and wide roads of Shanghai there are no poor because they do not get permits to enter Shanghai.

Doctor Courageous

8226; This refers to 8216;What she really needs to hear8217; IE, January 24. First of all, I salute this extraordinary girl for her undaunted courage and guts to put that ordeal behind her and for making sure her rapists got what they deserved. After the rape, this young soul kept her chin up and didn8217;t quit working on her dream of becoming a doctor. The judge is absolutely wrong in saying that her life was finished after the rape. The fact is, the best part of her life is still ahead of her, when she begins treating sick patients.
Not only this, I now see this young and courageous woman as a role model for all other victims of rape. They are bound to draw inspiration and courage from her.

8226; The Election Commission8217;s proposal for a negative vote is just what the people need. However the Commission needs to carry the idea even further. If in a constituency, the negative votes are higher than votes polled by any one candidate, then all the candidates must lose their deposits and a re-election should be ordered.
