8226; At last India has found a leader with vision and dynamism who is also a master tactician and politician. L.K. Advani is the sort of leader India needs today. It is very sad that some people are jumping to conclusions about Advani8217;s remarks in Pakistan.
What is it that he has said in Pakistan that there has been such unwarranted reaction in India? Actually, he has only narrated and quoted what Jinnah said in Pakistan8217;s constituent assembly, and what Sarojini Naidu had said.
He has done what no other Indian politician has even dared to do. Go into Pakistan, and say what India stands for a secular state. In doing so he has totally countered the opposition and other political parties in India who call BJP a communal party. Advani has also been able to change his image from that of a hardliner to a moderate.

8226; L.K. Advani has touched the hearts of many by renouncing hatred. All religions are different pathways to God. Hatred is not taught by any religion, and certainly not Hinduism. What extremists do in the name of any religion should be stopped and shunned by all right thinking people. Hatred only begets hatred. I am very proud of the BJP president.

8226; To whom are L.K. Advani8217;s comments in Pakistan directed? He must explain why he called Jinnah an ambassador of 8220;Hindu-Muslim unity8221;.

All for a vote

8226; This refers to Sagarika Ghose8217;s excellent article 8216;The Iftaar party trap8217; IE, June 6 which needs to be read with the day8217;s editorial 8216;A scalp for the Left8217;. It is this 8220;Official Indian Secularism8221; which is making a mockery of our democracy. Standing on its plank, lawbreakers with less than 5 per cent of the seats in Parliament and the Left with less than 5 per cent of the popular vote are calling the shots and dictating terms from inside and outside government. Education, economy and every other sector are being tampered with under the cover of this variety of secularism. To get rid of this collective fraud, a mass protest is required. We need an army of Sagarikas to ignite it.

Gas guzzlers

8226; T.R. Mukundan in 8216;Take that Bus8217; IE, June 6 correctly identifies the problem of galloping consumption of petrol products. It ought to be a warning signal that our crude oil import bill has gone up by 40 per cent in the face of a proportional increase in road transport. A/C fitted cars, consuming 20 per cent more fuel, further add to the surging demand. Perhaps we could emulate Britain8217;s recent proposal for a five-fold increase in road taxes for fuel-hungry, gas-guzzling cars.

Fatal flick

8226; Harneet Singh, while attempting to demolish the case made by Health Minister Ramadoss against tobacco promotion in films, actually proves it IE, June 5: 8220;Tamil Superstar Rajnikanth8217;s trademark cigarette flick was copied by millions.8221; Isn8217;t that the whole point about films stimulating tobacco use? Many youngsters actually would have got addicted to cigarette smoking as a result of copying the flick of their superstar. 8220;Dashrath Singh8217;s mind works only when he lights up.8221; This is exactly the kind of myth that the tobacco industry would like to see propagated through films. The case is made.
