PUNE, Nov 6: The Patit Pawan Sanghatana PPS has urged Pune Cantonment Board PCB to look into the poor condition of the road near Mahatma Gandhi bus stand, Solapur Bazaar failing which they have threatened to agitate in the next fortnight.

In a memorandum issued here to the cantonment executive officer, Devendra Bhatia, chief of Pune Camp, PPS complained that the roads facing the bus stand were uneven and had several potholes. Although temporary repairs were made a fortnight ago, the potholes were back in place owing to the heavy traffic. The PPS members requested the board to intervene before the traffic congestion and poor state of roads caused a major accident.

Another problem, according to the PPS members, was the haphazard way three-seater and six-seater autos were parked, blocking traffic and hindering bus drivers. The sanghatana has suggested the installation of speed-breakers near the Behramji building, near Pulgate police chowki. A zebra crossing is a must for pedestrians, it felt.

It has also urged the board to arrange for railings on both sides of the road from Behramji building to the STD booth on the Solapur-Pune Road.
