In a fresh order issued on Friday, the MCD chairman standing committee has asked the commissioner to remove all illegal political hoardings put up in various parts of the city in violation of the Model Code of Conduct for Delhi Assembly polls.

“We have issued clear-cut directions that violation of the model code will not be tolerated at all. The Commissioner has been asked to ensure that all illegal hoardings, irrespective of their parties, are removed,” said Gupta.

A meeting of the Standing Committee on Friday witnessed uproar when Congress councillors alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party has put up hoardings all over the city, including on corporation properties, in violation of the model code.

“The BJP is misusing its power. There are more posters of the BJP members than of the Congress,” alleged Leader of the Opposition Jai Kishan Sharma demanding that all illegal signboards be removed soon.

Gupta, however, said the Congress is “politicising” the issue. He has asked the commissioner to submit the report at the next meeting of the Committee.
