Prayers at Srinagar on Friday. Muslims across the country on Friday celebrated Id-Ul-Zuha that marks the the offer of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail to Allah. President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam offered prayers at the Rashtrapati Bhavan mosque on the occasion, also known as Bakr-Id. In Delhi, main prayers were held at the Shahi Masjid Fatehpuri and Jama Masjid.
Braving early morning snowfall, Muslims in J-K thronged mosques, with the historic Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar and Hazratbal shrine on the outskirts attracting the largest number of devotees. Main prayers in Lucknow were held at the Aishbagh Idgah and Tilewali Mosque while Shias offered prayers at the Asifi Mosque.
Women offered prayers in large numbers at the Rail Bazar mosque in Kanpur. Security was tight in the temple towns of Ayodhya and Faizabad where prayers passed off peacefully. —PTI
