Bubbly, bold, carefree, spontaneous and all together refreshing8230; Resham Seth ufh8217; Anjali of Campus fame, seemed just that in a nutshell. She talks of not what life has done to her, but of what she has done to life.In town, recently, she spoke at length.
How and the when of it all?
Well, it all happened when I was sixteen. I was a Kathak danseuse. An uncle8217;s friend called me in for a screen test, which eventually got me my first break in a Marathi movie called Jeeva Lagan by Mahesh Kothari. I played the lead role. I did some four to five Marathi movies and then switched over to came Campus. That was the turning point.
How did you get that ring on your finger?
I am a Maharashtrian married to a Punjabi. I met my husband on the sets of Campus. We would constantly bicker. This went on for six months till one day he popped the question. I remember telling him that I wouldn8217;t wait for him forever, so he8217;d better tie the knot soon8230;or else no guarantees. Today, I am the proud mother of four-year-old Rishika.
Your career and family8230;where do you draw the line?
I am not at all ambitious. I8217;d rather just sit at home and have kids. I work only because good projects are coming. The day they stop, I shall quit. In fact, even now I am extremely choosy. Also, my husband and I make sure that at least one of us is at home for our daughter, at all times.
What about the Gulmohar role?
Incidentally, here I play a Punjabi married to a Maharashtrian. This suits me just fine, as I8217;m quite comfortable with the Punjabi accent.
Ever thought of diversifying8230;Hindi movies, theatre or even the ad-world?
Frankly, Baazigar was my first and last Hindi movie. I simply don8217;t want to do anymore. Regarding theatre, I must admit that doing umpteen rehearsals for the same play is not my cup of tea, so I opted out after one attempt. And as far as ads goes, they told me I would have to change a couple of things about me, like get thinner. So that was a no-no too.
Your other projects both in the past and those to come?
A couple of Marathi movies like I said before, one of them was Satva Pariksha, for which I got the Best Critics Award. Here I played a negative and positive role. Another one in the making is Heera Shalu, a typical fun love triangle. Presently, my serials on air are Gudgudee, Alpaviram, Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, and some others. Then again there is Deewar, a forthcoming serial.
Any fan stalking8230;?
Not really. Actually, something amusing happened last week. I got this letter accompanied by a Lucknowi kurta and bangles. The letter said this fan had fallen for me and if my answer was in the affirmative, I should get back to him. I tell you, it was amusing. Here I am married, with a kid and someone still wants to propose. Anyway, we laughed it off and that was that.
